Mayors For Meals Day on
March 24, 2010
February 18, 2010 — Menlo Park, CA
Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. (PVI) Meals on Wheels announced today that it will be holding Mayors For Meals Day as a part of its March For Meals campaign. Mayors from Atherton, Belmont, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Portola Valley, Redwood City, San Carlos, and Woodside have been invited to participate in the event to show their support for our community's seniors.
PVI's Mayors For Meals Day event will include a brief press conference and demonstration prior to having the Mayors deliver to individuals in our community.
"We are excited about having all the Mayors from the cities we serve the homebound once again participate in our event. We hope to raise awareness and recruit as many people as we possibly can to join us in the national movement to end senior hunger by 2020," said Michelle Knapik, Executive Director."
March For Meals is a national campaign, initiated by Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), which seeks to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community. Senior nutrition programs across the United States, like PVI Meals on Wheels, promote March For Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives. Mayors For Meals Day is a component of March For Meals that utilizes the involvement of local Mayors and other local elected officials.
