| Position: |
Provide educational, recreational and social activities in day center for physically/cognitively impaired older adults. Provide assistance with activities of daily living.
|
- Requirements:
Training and experience relating to working with older adults with physical and cognitive disabilities, including Alzheimer’s disease; understanding of a care philosophy that promotes health, independence, safety, and dignity for program participants; skill in communicating with the participants in the day program; ability to follow written and oral directions; ability to work as part of interdisciplinary team; ability to multi-task and prioritize; ability to assist participants in activities of daily living. California Dept. of Justice criminal record clearance required prior to employment. TB test and fitness for duty exam required.
- Accountability:
Reports to Program Coordinator. Program Coordinator and Program Manager evaluate this position.

- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide participants with assistance in activities of daily living including transfers, ambulation, eating, toileting
- Lead and/or assist with group activities.
- Supervise and monitor participants.
- Serve meals and snacks.
- Maintain a safe and healthful environment at Rosener House.
- Assist in assessment of participants and development of care plans.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service training and workshops as required.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Be trained and prepared to implement emergency procedures for group or individuals; CPR and First Aid training required.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Demonstrate knowledge of position.

- Motivate participants and show enthusiasm for work.
- Receive and value feedback from supervisors and willingly work to strengthen skills and build on successes while addressing challenges in a positive manner.

- Comply with all Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. employee guidelines and procedures.
- Complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Activity Leader II
Demonstrates Core Competencies for Activity Leader I plus:
- With guidance of program coordinator innovate, plan, implement, and evaluate new activities.
- Evaluate activities with co-workers and plan improvements.
- Lead by example through increased responsibility and productivity for the activity program.
- Apply problem solving abilities with participants and co-workers.
- Activity Leader III
Demonstrate all Core Competencies for Activity Leader I and II plus:
- Independently develop, organize, lead, and evaluate recreational, educational and cultural therapeutic activities and special events for program participants.
- Identify and adjust daily activities and work assignments as needed to meet the needs of the participants and the program.
- Assist Program Coordinator to produce activity calendar.
- Conduct activity assessments of new and on-going participants.
- Mentor and train new activity staff and volunteers.
- Interface with other community organizations in aging services.
- Assist Rosener House Coordinator and Program Manager as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Physical Requirements:
- Able to occasionally lift up to fifty pounds while assisting participants
- Regularly required to walk, stand, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, reach, carry.
- Frequently required to push wheelchairs.
- Work Environmental:
- Hours: Non-exempt hourly position working up to 35 hours per week.
