Director of Development

Founded in 1947, Peninsula Volunteers, Inc is a community-based, non-profit organization that develops and administers programs and services for the aging population of the mid-peninsula region, providing over 1,000 hot meals every week to the homebound through Meals on Wheels, and touching over 4500 households through our programs at Little House, The Roslyn G. Morris Activity Center and Rosener House Adult Day Services. With a budget of $3.6M, PVI has led the nation in developing programs to support the welfare of the older adult members of our community. It is supported by private philanthropy, public grants and fees.

General Position Description:

The Director of Development will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the fundraising initiatives for PVI. The Director of Development will provide staff support to the Fund Development Committee, the Major Gifts Committee and all other volunteers involved with non-event fundraising on behalf of PVI. The Director will assist in implementing the fundraising plans to successful conclusion, oversee all fundraising administrative considerations and ensure the accuracy, as well as timeliness, of all prospect, donor and volunteer communications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide overall coordination for the PVI's major gift program including the identification, cultivation and solicitation of foundation, corporate and individual donors to PVI.
  • Provide direction to and coordinate with the Major Gifts Committee, Fund Development Committee and other volunteer fundraising committees, as they implement various fundraising efforts on behalf of PVI.
  • Manage foundation grantsmanship, including the identification and cultivation of appropriate potential funders.
  • Responsible for the development of communications, marketing and public relations programs to raise public visibility for the organization as it relates to both participant and donor audiences.
  • Coordinate with PVI's Board Fund Development Committee direct mail and annual giving programs.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director and Board, create and implement an annual and longer-term fundraising plan with dollar goals, objectives, and strategies for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major individual gifts, foundation grants, and corporate gifts and sponsorships.
  • Develop and implement donor recognition policies.
  • Establish all administrative systems and procedures to track, record, report, acknowledge, and recognize all contributions and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all fundraising, prospect, donor, and fundraising volunteer communications.
  • Supervise a Development Assistant, if appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Three-to-five years line fundraising experience in a comparable non-profit.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to garner the respect and trust of the Executive Director and the PVI Board and various fundraising committees.
  • Self-confident and adaptable and able to work collaboratively with a variety of volunteer leaders.
  • Superb relationship builder
  • Undergraduate or advanced degree preferred. Successful major individual giving/planned giving experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • CFRE designation a plus
  • Knowledge of Raiser's Edge or other fundraising software a plus.
  • California Dept. of Justice and Social Services criminal record clearance required prior to employment.
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Maintain a good driving safety record (verified by a DMV report at hire and at least yearly thereafter), a reliable vehicle, proof of liability insurance with a minimum of 100,000/300,000 coverage.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint.
Physical Requirements:
  • Extensive use of keyboard and viewing computer monitor
  • Prolonged periods of sitting
  • Ability to travel to various locations for meetings, outreach, etc
  • Ability to twist, bend, reach, carry, lift
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 15 pounds

  • Office environment with some travel off-site

Hours:

Full-time salaried exempt position. 35 hour work week minimum.
