Position Title:

Meals on Wheels Manager/Peninsula Volunteers Dietitian (see below for Dietitian responsibilities.

Agency:

Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. is a private non-profit, voluntary tax exempt agency supported by fundraising events, foundation and public grants, fees, individuals and businesses. It develops and administers programs for the aging population of the mid-peninsula region.

Program:

Meals on Wheels Program

Education:

B.A. in human service or related field (paid experience may be substituted for degree).  Registered Dietitian.  Proficiency in MS Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint.

Requirements:
  • Proof of Dietitian registration required
  • Direct or related experience with services for the aging.
  • California Dept. of Justice and Social Services criminal record clearance required prior to employment.
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Maintain a good driving safety record (verified by a DMV report at hire and at least yearly thereafter), a reliable vehicle, proof of liability insurance with a minimum of 100,000/300,000 coverage.
  • Strong supervisory, communication and organizational skills

  • Able to effectively prioritize and follow through on details
  • Knowledge of budgeting principles
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the overall functioning and efficiencies of the home delivered meals program including ultimate responsibility for meal delivery and eligibility.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable County regulations and Meals on Wheels Older Americans Act guidelines.
  • Client contact consists of phone calls and, as needed, home visits, contact with drivers regarding clients, and emergency intervention.

  • Supervise program personnel including MOW Assistant Manager, Assessment Specialist, Packers, Drivers, Volunteers. Conduct regular meetings, develop and implement in-service training with staff and volunteers. Compute and submit payroll in a timely manner including any reimbursements. Manager serves as back up to all program positions as necessary.

  • Collaborate with Food Services Department to ensure food quality and quantity, variety. Oversee the preparation and packing of daily meals and the regular monitoring of food temperature and flavor.
  • Keep accurate, organized records of necessary statistics, submitting monthly stats to appropriate agencies in a timely, concise manner. Maintain and update month-to-month statistics, monitoring program performance, identifying and rectifying any areas of difficulty.

  • Ensure computation of daily meal counts and ordering of meals. Tabulate total meals received each week by each client, generating a monthly donation reminder for each individual. Collect, record and submit donations. Organize, produce and distribute monthly menu and nutrition education information to clients. Conduct occasional surveys, as needed, to assess client likes, dislikes, and suggested changes in menu or delivery. Create, as necessary, various forms and data instruments in order to facilitate program function.

  • Participate in the yearly budgeting process with Executive Director.

  • Attend committee meetings as needed to represent the interests of Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. and Peninsula Volunteers clients in the area of senior nutrition.

  • Work collaboratively with Grant Writer to submit and monitor grants, contracts and submit reports on time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Dietitian Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop all menus and approve substitutions prior to usage. This includes consideration for participant preferences and meal satisfaction, dietary guidelines, food suitability and costs.
  • Establish food safety standards and practices for Peninsula Volunteers, Inc.
  • Monitor food quality, food handling, and sanitation practices for sites and home delivered meals quarterly.
  • Review food and supply specifications, costs, preparation methods, adherence to menu, recipes and portion control, packaging, handling of leftovers, inventory and storage, temperature monitoring, compliance with sanitary code and equipment maintenance. Hold current ServSafe Certificate.
  • Meet with Site Directors and Managers to work on nutrition related issues.
  • Liaison to the Area Agency on Aging; attend quarterly
    meetings with the AAS staff and nutrition providers in San Mateo County.
  • Maintain reports on monitoring activities, recommendation and nutrition counseling. Attend staff and committee meetings as appropriate.
  • Develop a yearly plan and content of in-service training for all paid and volunteer food service personnel, including drivers. A minimum of four training sessions to take place each fiscal year.
  • Develop and coordinate all nutrition education for both congregate and home delivered meal participants. Topics are to promote improved food selection, eating habits and health related practices.
    Provide nutrition counseling to MOW clients at home or by phone.
  • Kitchen inspection (twice/year)
  • Per contract - conduct quarterly nutrition lectures at Congregate Sites.

Physical Requirements:
  • Moderate use of keyboard and viewing computer monitor 
  • Ability to travel to various locations for meetings, outreach, etc.
  • Ability to twist, bend, reach, carry, lift
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to walk short distances as well as up and down stairs
Environmental:
  • Exposed to climatic conditions when visiting Meals On Wheels client

Accountability: Reports to Executive Director

Hours: Salaried exempt position.  35 hour workweek minimum. Full-time position with generous benefits
