| Job Summary: |
Direct and participate in the delivery of educational, recreational and social activities in a day service program for primarily physically/cognitively impaired older adults.
|
- Requirments:
- Minimum 2-3 years experience in providing recreational and social activities for older adults and/or persons with disabilities
- Minimum 1-2 years supervisory experience.
- Ability to work closely with interdisciplinary team.
- Physically able to provide personal care in the activities of daily living.
- California Dept. of Justice and CA Dept. of Social Services criminal record clearance required prior to employment.
- Valid California Driver’s License
- Maintain a good driving safety record (verified by a DMV report at hire and at least yearly thereafter) and proof of liability insurance with a minimum of 100,000/300,000 coverage.
- Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Services
- With guidance from the Program Manager, develop, organize, direct and lead recreational, educational, cultural, and therapeutic activities and special events for program participants.
- Coordinate with Dementia Services Coordinator in assessments of new participants and ongoing evaluation of continuing participants for level of functioning and appropriate activity group assignment.
- Coordinate participants’ attendance in therapy sessions.
- Produce monthly activity calendar.
- Interface with PV kitchen for delivery of participant meals.
- Motivate, observe and evaluate participants
- Assist participants in activities of daily living as needed.
- Be trained and prepared to implement emergency procedures for group or individuals; CPR and First Aid training required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision
- Supervise activity leaders, program assistants and volunteers. Participate in staff evaluations
- Create weekly and daily staff work schedules.
- Work in conjunction with other appropriate team members to coordinate marketing and community awareness campaigns and assist with internal and external community relations.
- Monitor meal and rest periods.
- Lead weekly activity planning meeting.
Administration
- Assist in orientation and training of new activity staff and volunteers.
- Assist Program Manager and Director as required.
- Maintain a safe and healthful environment in the Center.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service training and workshops as required.
- Interface with other community organizations in aging services as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Other duties as needed.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to occasionally lift up to fifty pounds.
- Regularly required to walk, stand, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, reach, and carry.
- Ability to assist participants with toileting needs including transfers.
- Ability to frequently push wheelchairs.
- Education and Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in social services, gerontology, recreation or related field or equivalent training and experience.
- Working knowledge of MS Word and Outlook. Excel a plus.
