Subaru’s “Share The Love” sales event helping to drive away senior hunger

Menlo Park, CA (February 6, 2013) – Peninsula Volunteers “Meals on Wheels” program is proud to announce it has been awarded a $550 grant from Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) for its participation in the Subaru ”Share the Love” sales event with local dealership, Putnam Subaru of Burlingame.

Subaru of America donated $250 for every new vehicle sold or leased from November 21, 2012 to January 2, 2013 to the customer’s choice of one of five charities, including MOWAA. With Subaru of America’s support, MOWAA will award $200,000 in “Share the Love” grants to Meals On Wheels programs that partner with local Subaru dealerships in the fight to end senior hunger. Over the past four years, proceeds from the Subaru “Share The Love” sales event have provided funds to MOWAA to support its vision to end senior hunger by 2020.  Grants awarded by MOWAA range from $250 to $35,000.

“We have almost a perfect storm for senior hunger: cuts to funding, at the same time that the senior population and hunger due to poverty and disabilities are exploding. Today it is even more difficult to raise money to provide meals to the community’s homebound seniors,” said Marilyn Baker-Venturini, Meals on Wheels Program Director for Peninsula Volunteers. “For so many of our homebound seniors our hot nutritious meals are their only meal of the day!”
