Samuel Merritt Nurses at Little House Thursdays

From now through April 17th, each Thursday morning, 9:30 – 11:45 AM, the nursing student interns from Samuel Merritt University will perform various health screenings at Little House. These screenings, as well as their health education and consultation, are FREE to everyone. No reservations are necessary; just come on in.

Check your pulse and blood pressure, ask questions about your health routines or diet – take advantage of these very helpful student nurses. They’re here to serve you!

Little House has many health services to meet your needs year round:

  • massage,
  • acupuncture,
  • podiatry,
  • blood pressure screenings,
  • HICAP Medicare counseling,
  • medication disposal drop box

Our Samuel Merritt nursing students have been doing an excellent job of health promotion at Little House, Rosener House and Meals on Wheels.

Come join them at Little House every Thursday morning until Thanksgiving week for: snacks, recipes, screenings, and yet another creative and fun activity to promote healthy living.

Heart Health Tips from Visiting Nursing Students on Thursday

Every Thursday morning through October 31st, from 9:30 to noon, the Samuel Merritt Nursing Students come to Little House to treat you to a free snack, great health information, if you want they’ll check your blood pressure and more.

They always have a recipe for a diet that befits the best health interest of week’s theme. For instance, next week is Heart Health, code-named Rumble in the Jungle.

 

 

 

Turkey Cranberry Burger

Cook Time: 20 Minutes

Ingredients:

3oz lean ground turkey breast

1tbsp finely shredded carrot

1 tbsp thinly sliced green onions

1 tsp fine dry bread crumbs

1 tsp fat-free milk

1/8 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning, crushed salt and pepper to taste

1 cup mixed baby greens

1 tbsp whole cranberry sauce

1 whole wheat hamburger bun, split and toasted

Directions

In a medium bowl, stir together carrot, green onions, bread
crumbs, milk, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Add ground turkey; mix well.
Shape the turkey mixture into 1/2-inch-thick patty. Place patty on greased
unheated broiler pan. Broil 4 to 5 inches from the heat for 11 to 13 minutes or
until done (165 degrees F),* turning once halfway through broiling. Arrange
mixed greens on bottom of the bun. Top with grilled patty and cranberry sauce;
replace top halves of buns.
