Volunteers Recognized at RSVP Luncheon

Volunteers are often the building blocks for any non-profit organization. Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. is no different! Community Volunteers were honored at a recognition luncheon for Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) members of the San Mateo County. Among those recognized was Angela Owen, a Little House volunteer, who has served her community for over 20 years! Angela received The Presidential Volunteer Service-Lifetime Achievement Award which is given to volunteers who have contributed at least 4,000 community service hours. Thank you Angela!

Help for Senior Home Owners

FREE HOME SERVICES FOR SENIORS & THE HOMEBOUND

RSVP is an annual week-long community outreach program that takes place in May, during “Adopt-A-Senior” Week. The program provides free assistance to qualified seniors who can not otherwise perform certain household tasks because they have physical constraints and lack the financial resources to hire someone to do the work.

The REALTOR® Service Volunteer Program (RSVP), which operates through your local Association of REALTORS®, promotes safety in the home and assistance to the elderly. The program is one way REALTORS® and affiliates can give back to their communities and perhaps help seniors and the homebound maintain their independence and stay in their homes longer.

WHO DOES THE WORK? REALTORS® and affiliates (lenders, title companies, insurance agents, attorneys, contractors, home inspectors and other real estate-related businesses) of your local REALTOR® Association take time each year to perform household tasks that seniors and the homebound cannot do on their own.

HOW DOES RSVP WORK?
An application is completed by the resident. Requested tasks are reviewed with the homeowner and a team is assigned to do the work. The goal is to have all the work competed by a small team of volunteers in a single visit.

FREQUENTLY REQUESTED TASKS
* Wash windows
* Flip a mattress
* Change furnace filters
* Change light bulbs
* Remove trip hazards
* Light vacuuming
* Move furniture
* Rake leaves
* Trim overgrown hedges
* Replace smoke detector batteries

Little House Volunteers Awarded at annual RSVP recognition event

Val Martinovich proudly displays her Presidential Volunteer Service Award certificate. This Lifetime Achievement award recognizes RSVP members who have reported at least 4,000 hours of community service. For over 20 years, Val has been a Little House volunteer, running the Stamp Club and active in the Craft group. She has knit and donated “hundreds” of scarves and other items for the Little Shop over the years.

Take it from Val, “Volunteering means everything to me”.   THANK YOU, VAL!!!
