Books for the Holidays!
For the 22nd Annual Author Salons the Authors Salon committee promises to inspire, educate, and perhaps even transport you to another world with their fabulous line-up of authors. Join the committee at the Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club and enjoy hearing best-selling author and moderator Ellen Sussman, Lalita Tademy, Marilyn Yalom, Paul Goldstein, Richard Rhodes, and a fabulous author yet to be named.
Thank you to all the Author Salon committee merry-makers who volunteered at the Pre-Holiday Party at Books Inc. and contributed to our successful evening! Sales from community shoppers and Peninsula Volunteers, who opened their wallets to help support our programs raised $1,009 in contributions. We are grateful to you and Books Inc. for supporting Peninsula Volunteers, Inc.
November 12, 2012 ~ 4th Annual "Baubles Bangles and Bags"
A sold out crowd of over 300 very stylish Peninsula Volunteers and guests filled the Menlo Park Circus Club November 12th for the Fourth Annual "Baubles, Bangles and Bags," benefiting Peninsula Volunteers, Inc., programs: Meals on Wheels, Little House and Rosener House. Congratulations to BBB Co-chairs Margaret Day and Margo Rafaty, their consultants Pat Grillos, Darlene Woodson, and Linda Drew and their committee -- Fritzie Andrews, Mical Brenzel, Sandy Ferrando, Colleen Haight, Jill Jerrehian, Dianne Patterson, Jackie Scandalios, Kimber Strum, and Pat Wilkinson.
Champagne and a deliciously healthy lunch followed a highly successful silent auction of 270 purses and jewelry. Special items included an official Giants jersey signed by MVP Pablo Sandoval and a designer purse signed by Cheryl Burke ("Dancing with the Stars".)
"Frock-star" and celebrity stylist Suzie Woodward Morris, Founder and Chief Image Officer of Strategic Imaging, had the crowd oohing and ahhing and laughing with delight as she shared style secrets during "Transformations". Suzie showed an astonishing array of unique designs, all created from what she already had in her closet, using "volunteer models" from the audience. Her genius for improvising, mixing and matching were on full display.
PVs and their guests stepped up to help fund the Music Therapy program at Rosener House.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Peninsula Volunteer programs focused on improving the quality of life for those in our community.
You won't want to miss this next year, so start planning!!!!

March 21, 2012 ~ Mayors For Meals
Every year our Meals on Wheels program hosts a special event designed to raise awareness of senior hunger in our communities. As part of a nationwide effort with our sister agencies in Meals on Wheels Association of America, we gather the mayors of all the towns we serve, as well as other government officials, and they get to deliver to their constituents. No kidding, this is on promise on which the elected officials are guaranteed to deliver!
This event has helped connect our officials with the very people who need their help the most, but who never show up at city meetings: the vulnerable, home-bound seniors and disabled adults.
Every weekday they receive a personal visit from a Meals on Wheels staff or volunteer, who chats with them and quietly does a safety check to make sure they're all right. This time they get to meet with a celebrity. It's a moving affair. There is nothing quite like visiting people in their own homes and seeing how little they have to exist and how happy they are to receive these vital meals.
Thanks to all our mayors, our elected officials and our funders for gathering to do this one special delivery.
March 16, 2012 ~ St. Patrick's Day Celebration & White Elephant Sale
The White Elephant Sale
A little rain has never put a damper on a savvy shopper’s desire to seek great deals and Little House’s White Elephant Sale was no exception! Although the sale started at 10am, consumers began eyeing deals and sneaking peeks at all the treasures almost as soon as Little House opened at 8am. While waiting for the sale to start, shoppers had the benefit of treating themselves to Irish Coffees in honor of St. Patrick’s Day as well as a wonderful spread of morning treats and pastries that would make any bakery jealous.
Once the sale began, Little House members and non-members alike flocked to the numerous tables offering jewelry, electronics, board games, home furnis
Overall, the White Elephant Sale was an incredibly enjoyable day and great start to St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Little House would like to thank all of the volunteers for the time and effort it took to make the sale such a massive success, thank you!hings and a variety of other items. After satiating their shopping needs, patrons made their way to Little House Café for lunch. On the menu was a delectable presentation that St. Patrick himself would be proud of: perfectly seasoned corned beef and cabbage complete with steamed red potatoes and carrots.
