How you can help the Peninsula Volunteers

Support our work for older adults!

DonateNow

Peninsula Volunteers is a 501(c)(3) charity.
Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Peninsula Volunteers, Inc., is an organization which provides over $3 million annually in services designed to enhance and enrich the lives of seniors in our community.

Much of what we do, most of our programs, and many of our services could not exist if it were not for the gracious support we receive from people like you. Seniors in our community would truly suffer without the help of individuals, groups, foundations and corporations.

There are many ways to help the Peninsula Volunteers — volunteering, special donations, and endowments are just a few. We rely on the generosity of our community for 50% of our operating funds. We strive for efficient operations as reflected in our fiscal year 08/09 audit, for every dollar spent at Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. 88.8% goes towards program. You can feel secure in knowing your donation makes an impact on the services we provide.

Our Interim Executive Director, Bart Charlow will be happy to discuss any of the following programs with you. Contact him at 650-326-0665.

Gifts of Cash & Pledges
Cash gifts are deductible for Federal Income Tax purposes up to a limit of 50% of your adjusted gross income if you itemize deductions. Where cash gifts exceed this limit, you may carry over the excess for up to five additional years.

Gifts of Stocks and Bonds
You may make outright gifts and pledges in the form of appreciated securities rather than cash, thereby benefiting from extra tax advantages.

Gifts of Real Estate or other tangible property
Almost any kind of real estate is a valuable gift: primary residence, vacation home, farm, commercial building or an undeveloped parcel of land. You can even contribute your residence now and still reside in it for the rest of your life.

Planned Gifts – Charitable Remainder Trusts, Wills
You may transfer money, securities or both to a trust that pays a fixed dollar amount annually for life and receive a sizeable income tax charitable deduction in the year the trust is created.

Many of our supporters make bequests in their wills. The Federal Government allows an unlimited estate tax charitable deduction for gifts of this kind.

Good News for Individual Retirement Account Holders
If you have an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) and are thinking of making a charitable gift to Peninsula Volunteers, here is some good news we would like to share.

Congress has retroactively extended, from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011, the law that permits direct tax-free distributions("rollovers") from qualified IRAs to nonprofit organizations. Certain requirements apply to charitable IRA rollovers:

  • You must be at least 70 1/2 at the time you make the gift.
  • The contribution must be made directly from your traditional or Roth IRA to Peninsula Volunteers.
  • The distribution may not exceed $100,000.

You cannot receive any direct gift of benefit that would be non-deductible from Peninsula Volunteers in exchange for your charitable gift.

If you have questions about directing a distribution from your IRA to Peninsula Volunteers, please contact Bart Charlow, Executive Director, at (650) 326-0665 extension 223.

Before making such a gift, you should consult with your attorney or financial advisor to determine the tax consequences for your individual situation as Peninsula Volunteers can not provide any legal or financial advise to you

Vehicle Donation
You can now donate an auto, boat, RV, or motorcycle that you no longer need.

  • Receive maximum legal tax deductions and free IRS and DMV paperwork.
  • Free towing or pickup.
Call our donation services at 1-866-273-5898 (toll free).
