Tuesday Teas

July 13   The United States Coast Guard - Come and see pictures and hear how it really works. From romance on the high seas (ask them how they met), to the important job of protecting our coasts, find out about this key element of our armed services.
Guest Speakers: Little House members, Stu and Kaethe Langs, proud members of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.

July 20 PS Performance - We are delighted to welcome back these talented singers and dancers who are state champions. You will enjoy their exciting show.
Guest Artists:  Teenagers in a production choreographed by Priscilla Stanford. Ms. Stanford’s studio is located in Belmont.

July 27 The Lure of New Zealand - One of our very own, Gale Fullerton, is a world traveler who enjoys sharing his pictures and telling stories about the fabulous places he has visited. You will learn about the South Island recognized for its lovely open spaces and gorgeous scenery.
Guest Speaker: Gale Fullerton, World traveler and local Raconteur.

There will be no Tuesday Tea in August.

July 14 How To Get What You Want From The System - Hear first hand from our speaker, a personal story of experiencing a heart attack and her recovery. How to be assertive, empowered, and responsible for one’s own health and recovery.
Guest Speaker:  Mavis Anderson, RN, has spent her life in the medical profession though she has always questioned the traditional approach.

June 21  OK! I've Had A Heart Attack. No What? - Do you have heart disease, angina, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes? Robin Wedell, RN will share her experience, knowledge and prescription for cardiovascular and diabetic wellness.

July 28  Super Size Me - On the heels of a lawsuit, director Morgan Spurlock takes a look at the effects of fast food on the human body.  For one month, Spurlock eats nothing but McDonald’s food--ordering everything on the menu super-sized.  Come and discover the results of this remarkable experiment on his health and examine the thin line between personal and corporate responsibility.

July 14  Coco before Chanel  (France, 2009)  110 mins.  PG-13
A film showing the many lives of Chanel.  Starring Audrey Tatou, it was nominated for four BAFTA Awards and an Academy Award for best costuming.

June 21  Les Miserables (England, 1995)  160 mins.  NR
Widely recognized as the world’s most popular musical, this production brings together the “dream cast”; over 250 performers including the most celebrated stars to appear world wide.  Filmed at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

July 28  DOUBLE BILL
Lola (France, 1962)  90 mins.  NR
This wonderful film is by the renowned director of “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg”, Jacques Demy.  It stars Anouk Aimee (“A Man and a Woman”) and is a tale of a dancer trying to raise a son and looking for love in all the wrong places.

Sky Dance (France, 2007)  40 mins. NR
A silly plot, but incredible low-flying photographs of France.  Let your heart and eyes enjoy the  scenery.

August 4 Swing Time (Hollywood, 1936) 104 mins  NR
Many claim that this is the best of the movies Fred and Ginger made together.  TIME  lists it as one of its’ “100 Best Movies!” This classic musical includes the songs, “The Way You Look Tonight” and ‘Pick Yourself Up.”

August 11 Mostly Martha (Germany, 2002) 106 mins PG
This tragicomic tells the tale of an uptight professional chef, named Martha, whose world turns upside down when she takes in her newly orphaned niece. Watch what ensues when she tries parenting.

August 18 Man of La Mancha (Hollywood, 1972) 129 mins NR
Academy Award winners Peter O’Toole and Sophia Loren are magnificent in this “lavishly produced” (LA Herald-examiner) and “beautifully scored” with the classic melody, The Impossible Dream. This truly beautiful musical is an experience not to be missed.

August 25 A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Britain, 1996) 94 mins NR
Balanchine’s version of this ballet with Mendelssohn’s music is danced by the Pacific Northwest Ballet to the music of the BBC Orchestra. Come lose yourself in the music as you watch Shakespeare’s story unfold.

Jack Nicholson is a mean man who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder and repulses everyone he meets with his offensive comments. But he finds redemption with his relationships with a dog, a waitress (Helen Hunt) and a gay neighbor (Greg Kinnear) in this quirky romantic comedy.  Oscars for Nicholson (best actor) and Hunt (best actress).

Bright 16 year-old girl comes under the spell of a charming man in his late 30’s.  Carey Mulligan Oscar nominated for Best Actress.

Poor worker who loses his job at a rural ostrich farm finds work in Tehran transporting people and goods on the back of his motorcycle.

August 16 It’s Complicated  1 hr 58 min   **1/2  R  2009
Meryl Streep and Alex Baldwin star as divorced couple who reignite the spark in their relationship after meeting at their son’s college graduation. The complication is he’s remarried.

August 23 Invictus  1 hr 41 min   ***   PG-13  2009
Morgan Freeman plays Nelson Mandela in his first term as South African president.  He enlists the national rugby team to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.  Also stars Matt Damon.

August 30 Coco Chanel   2 hrs 19 min   **1/2  PG  2008
Shirley Maclaine stars as Coco Chanel from her humble beginnings in a French orphanage to her rise as one of fashion’s most prominent women.
